In my house growing up we always did birthdays big. It normally consisted of a birthday week instead of just a day and my mom went all out. When we were little, it was a big event with all our friends. She’d plan relay races, crafts, food, and games – even a piñata! There was one year there where we also all made our own barrettes, I mean it was the epitome of cool in the 90s. Then of course there was a beautiful cake she decorated in whatever we thought was awesome that year (Strawberry Shortcake anyone?)
Now that we are older our weeks normally consist of delicious food, a bottle or two of wine, some decadent dessert, and still lots and lots of presents. I mean my mom knows how to do birthday’s right. But today, instead of one of us girls being spoiled it’s my mom’s birthday. One of the few days of the year it’s all about her and how wonderful she is. And though I didn’t plan a relay race – I do have this waiting at my house for you! (It’s chocolate and peanut butter covered in Reece’s Cups!)
So mom, on your birthday I just want to say thanks for teaching us to make birthday’s big and great. For always spoiling us and making us feel so special. For spending hours wrapping, and planning, and baking. For waking us up with doughnuts and putting us to bed by telling us about the day we were born and how different and special each one of us girls are to you. You are an amazing woman and a wonderful mom. This past year you have gone above and beyond to make my wedding the greatest day ever – and though I can never repay you I hope this is just a little start. This and that super delicious cake :) Can’t wait to celebrate with you tonight! I love you!
