Do you love history and the smell of old books? Do you enjoy spending your weekends wandering through museum exhibits? Are the Smithsonians one of your favorite vacation destinations? If so you are probably a history nerd like me and the idea of getting married on a historical property sounds ideal. Well, the Salem Musem might just be the perfect venue for you.
Open since 1992 with many renovations since, the museum is run by the Salem Historical Society and they are committed to keeping local history alive and available. Besides being a charming 1845 brick house this museum is 5 stories of art and culture featuring local artists and many items from the New River Valley’s history. I had the chance to wander around it with Anna who helps run the museum and manage the exhibits and see everything they offer as a venue.
Not only do they have 4 different spaces available for rent that you can use separately or combined based on your wedding needs, they are very affordable! So if you are looking for somewhere in the Salem area to get married, and have less than 125 guests make sure to put them on your list to check out! Or if you just love history pay them a visit and take the tour!
Here are a few shots I took at the property :)
The Green Roof terrace wraps around the building and over looks Longwood Park. It is covered in flowers and other plants that your guests can walk on or just enjoy. It is on the cutting edge of environmental architecture and complements the old brick of the building. And comes complete with a custom rental tent for your event!
And those floor to celling windows are a photographers dream :)
They have a complete room dedicated to the Lakeside Amusement Park and a full model of the roller coaster!
