When you begin to think about your wedding there are details that immediately come to mind – the dress, the location, the music, the food. Then there are things that are still important, but may not be at the forefront of your mind. Favors are one of those things. You want something to send home with your guests, that reflects your day and how thankful you are they joined you in celebrating your marriage – but with a million options out there where do you start?
I sat down with Genie from The Chocolate Spike in Blacksburg this week to talk about using her delightful, delicious, and gorgeous chocolates for your wedding favors and more.
When you walk into her store, located in the First and Main shopping center, your mouth immediately begins to water. The smells wafting from the chocolates overtakes you and you know you are going to leave there happy. If you have your eye on some truffles, fudge, caramel, or just plain solid chocolate Genie has an amazing selection.
From this wide selection brides have picked out their wedding favors, stocked up a dessert table or the groom’s table, used at their showers, or have even had guests buy them something to send on the honeymoon – Genie says ask about the “Screaming Orgasm” :)
When deciding to work with The Chocolate Spike, there are several things for you to choose from. The first is deciding on the packaging your chocolates will come in. Genie has lots of different options, sizes, and colors for you to choose from. You can customize the ribbon color, the size boxes and how they will be displayed. She even can make a custom label to go on a chocolate bar! Next of course you need to decide what type of chocolate you’ll have. Since there are so many options Genie offers a complementary chocolate tasting for couples so you can see what you like and customize it for you. She said some of the most popular choices are the “Little Bit of Bubbly” truffle with Pink Champagne, The “Peace Rose” that has real rose petals in it, and of course the ever popular “Fudge Truffle”. There are also Vegan and Sugar Free options for your guests with health restrictions.
Genie is the main Chocolatier at the Chocolate Spike and gained a lot of her knowledge from attending candy school, but she stays up with the current trends by attending classes and entering competition so she can create most anything you have in mind. She recommends starting to plan at least 3 months in advance so she has time to prepare and find any custom items you might like and then to confirm the month before your wedding. And “no wedding is too small” for her! It works well if you come to her with an idea in mind but she will try to do whatever she can to make your ideas come to life. She’s done many Virginia Tech themes, colors of all kinds, and is even working on a penguin chocolate for an upcoming summer wedding. Since she owns the company she can be more flexible and work with you. And she has recently added new equipment that allows her to branch out and work on more things, like the caramel apples she’s working on for another wedding coming up. Anything you can imagine that you love or is meaningful to your relationship and reflects your big day, Genie can help you create.
Still need more convincing? Well to celebrate her being open at the First and Main Shopping center for 5 years, and being in business for 10 – she started with a booth at the Blacksburg Farmers Market – she’s running a special all week! A $5 or $10 chocolate sampler! So stop in and try her delicious truffles and candy today – you won’t regret it!
