Monday Musings

I asked my sisters this weekend why do Saturday and Sunday always feel so short and Monday through Friday are the longest days ever? I think it’s because I fill up my weekends with all my favorite things and it’s true what they say “time flies when you are having fun.” And so here we are at another Monday, another week, another chance to start fresh. Yes, most people’s weeks start on Sunday I guess, but Monday is when you have to get back to routine and back to work. So I’m back at the computer uploading wedding galleries and working on some edits.

But like I said this weekend was full of all my favorite things:

  • I think weekends were made for brunches – or at least late, lazy breakfasts with multiple cups of coffee and no hurry to get up from the table. So on the Saturday’s we aren’t shooting weddings I like to make big delicious breakfasts. A few months ago I was obsessed with this play on eggs benedict and this weekend I made egg biscuits. Kind of like you’d get from a fast food place only so much better and probably equally as bad for you.
  • Also, the weekend is my time to catch up on TV – I spend a couple hours on Hulu watching the shows my husband hates and feeling all the feels. I’m sad all the finales are happening and they’ll be no Olivia and Meredith to hang with over the summer. It works out though cause I have lots of brides to spend Saturday’s with instead :)
  • Sunday after church I headed over to my parent’s house and my family and I spent the day celebrating my momma. My dad grilled steaks and I roasted vegetables while Jes put together a salad and Julie got dessert ready to eat. Then we spent a few hours around the table just talking and catching up – and of course finished with a board game. It was a perfect relaxing Sunday and the only bad part is it went to quickly!
  • Speaking of steak – normally it’s a rare treat to have it for dinner but Food Lion had them on sale so Scott grabbed some for dinner on Friday and so we just made them again on Saturday night with our new jam: roasted broccoli and instant mashed potatoes (so cheap, easy, and surprisingly good!). So yes if you’re paying attention I had steak for dinner EVERY DAY this weekend. I’m not complaining at all! Especially since Scott has been using this new butter basting technique and anything with butter is my favorite :)
  • If you follow me on Snapchat then you know it was like Christmas around here on Friday. Last week I had finally saved up enough to buy a new camera body. Yep, I took the plunge and upgraded to the 5D mark iii. And I’m in love. It’s two steps up from what I’m shooting with now and light years ahead in technology. So I got to spend the weekend playing with it and it’s amazing. I can’t wait to see how it’s going to be on a wedding day!
  • I also had a session in which to play with the new camera – some of my brides will remember Melia who was my second shooter years ago when I first moved to the area. Well, she has recently become a mom (yay!) and so we got together to do a family session. I don’t often shoot families – but this was a fun treat and of course I got to meet Barrett which was the cherry on top! It was not only Melia and Daniel but both of their families – so it felt a little like family portraits on a wedding day! And the rain only sprinkled on us for a minute so we all hid under a roof together :) Here’s a little sneak peek of them – and more to come on Thursday!
