Happy Monday and YAY for short holiday weeks. I am counting down the hours at my desk until the holiday starts and then I am going to unplug for 4 precious days. I love this time of year and sitting around a table with all your favorite people and copious amounts of food. Holidays that are food centered tend to be my favorite and Thanksgiving might just top that list. I’m pouring over recipes and breaking out the comfy pants because when it is all said and done Scott and I will have attended four dinners. And while I’m excited about the yummy dishes – I am more ecstatic that my husband and I will have three full days off together – that almost never happens. And for our first year of marriage these holiday plans are working out perfectly. Due to the fact my mom is scheduled at the hospital on Thanksgiving day, we will spend Thursday with his family and Friday with mine. Plenty of time for both and no need to cram two meals into one day or cut plans short. I love it.
Then the next week it’s my little sisters wedding! I can’t believe how fast it got here. So that will keep us busy the first week of December. And with only two weeks to go it was high time we celebrated her being a bachelorette no more! So this past weekend we rented a wonderful cabin at the Slightly Askew winery in Elkin and 8 of us girls spent the weekend going to wine tastings, eating brunches, sitting in the hot tub, playing catch phrase, and laughing until our cheeks hurt. It was such a fun time to get away and the weather was perfect. I’ll have the full recap of our trip on the blog tomorrow – but since I’m still recovering from staying up until THREE AM talking and my coffee is wearing off I’ll leave you with a few musings:
- Plaid may be my new favorite thing. I didn’t realize how much so until I looked in my suitcase this weekend and all I packed was plaid. On top of that my shirt today is also plaid. Eh, it’s fall and it’s comfy :)
- My straightener broke last week. I’ve had it for 6 years it so had a good run, but it may have been a blessing in disguise since that same day I visited the super talented CharMarie Salon and learned all about the quality of a good straightener. Turns out it’s not the product I was using but the brand (read more high quality the better) that will help tame the frizzy mob that is my hair. So now to invest in a really good one…
- This week all the Shondaland shows had the mid-season finale – Grey’s and HTGAWM didn’t disappoint but I expected Scandal to be a little more exciting – anyone else with me? Anyway, until they return I’m filling the void with The Year of Yes and old episodes of Private Practice. So far it’s doing the trick.
- I’m working on a new recipe that combines a college classic from my roommate with an old family favorite for this Friday – if you all enjoyed last weeks turkey post let me know and I’ll share more of my culinary adventures here! Especially since we are headed out of the season of beautiful shoots and into the cold comfort food months! Comment below if you’d like to see more :)
And until tomorrow here’s a little peek at this weekend! We decked her out in bride gear and of course had to show our support with these tattoos :)
Come back tomorrow for the full recap!
