Yes. You read that right. A couple weeks ago I participated in a truly Southern right of passage and went to Dollywood for the day. Scotts mom is a teacher and they take their school every year for an end-of-the-year trip. They needed a few more chaperones so Scott and I were the lucky winners! I mean a day of Dolly Parton and roller coasters?? Count me in.
We had to leave Christiansburg by 6am (meaning I got up at 5) and made the hour and a half drive to the school. Then it was another 2 hours to the park. We decided to start the day at the biggest roller coaster since the line was probably the shortest it would be all day. After waiting for about 15 minutes we were at the front of the line, to sit in the first car. As we waited to climb on we felt a few rain drops. By the time we were strapped in, it was a downpour. And rain pelting your face, arms, and legs as you loop around a coaster at those speeds – is comparable to being stabbed with toothpicks repeatedly, I’d imagine. And needless to say we were soaked. Then as soon as the ride were over and we walked down the stairs the rain had stopped. Just. Our. Luck. Thankfully it didn’t rain much the rest of the day, just a few sprinkles here and there but we filled it with shopping, the world’s biggest cinnamon roll, a Dolly Parton film, a train ride, and delicious BBQ. All in all I’d say my first trip to the Souths vacation spot was a success!
Seriously…size of my head – and yes I ate the entire thing :)
Scott and I even got a picture together (a rare occasion) complements of his mom.
And I snapped one of them too – so sweet.
And Scotts favorite activity of the day…feeding the GIANT goldfish.
I can’t wait to go back…and this time maybe with a little less rain :)
