This week I sat down with my favorite stylist and the miracle worker who is brave enough to deal with my hair in all it’s craziness every 8 weeks. She is so talented that she knows what I want even when I can’t explain it. So I was very excited to get to talk to her more and refer you brides to her for your big day…trust me, you’ll be in fabulous hands.
How long have you been doing makeup and hair for, specifically bridal makeup?
I’ve been doing bridal hair for eight years and started seriously doing makeup about five years ago.
On the wedding day do you travel to the location of the wedding or do you prefer they come into the salon? If so, is this an extra charge to travel?
Either one, I am able to work in the salon as well as on location services. On location service are generally time and a half and there is a travel fee depending on how far I travel.
What is the best way to book you? Is there a deposit required?
The best way to book is to contact Inside Out Salon for my hours or message me on my professional Facebook page, Charmaine Edwards-Hairstylist, Makeup Artist, Brow Enthusiast, to check availability. Then we can start to figure out times from there.
What products do you use? Do you bring everything you need or should the bride bring some stuff with her?
I provide everything needed the day of other than any headbands, flowers, etc. that are required. The products I use are Dinair Airbrush Makeup, MAC, Inglot, Urban Decay, and Mirabella. No need to bring anything with you! I offer trial hair and makeup before your wedding so we can make sure you are happy with the way you look. Since it is a separate cost, though I recommend scheduling your bridal portraits on that day to kill two birds with one stone.
Do you also offer services for the bride’s mother or party? Do you ever work with an assistant or other artists?
I love servicing entire bridal parties including everyone from the mother of the bride/groom to bridesmaids, flower girls, etc. Depending on the time frame and the amount of people needing services, I may bring another stylist to help. But this is definitely something that would be fun to do and I am happy to come and help everyone get ready on your wedding day.
What are some things you suggests brides do to prep the week before the wedding and the night before the wedding?
The week before the wedding I would definitely recommend getting an eyebrow wax from someone you trust! Also you should not start using any new products that may cause a reaction with their skin. Then the night before anyone getting hair and makeup services should wash their hair, apply a root lifting product, and blow dry their hair upside down. This creates a great base for updos and styles. The day of, anyone getting hair and makeup should have a clean face and dry hair.
Do you prefer if brides show you ideas of what they want or do you like to create looks that match their dress/style?
I love to see inspiration pictures for hair and makeup to make sure we’re speaking the same language. I may recommend tweaking the style to better suit hair type, face shape, dress style etc. But yes, please bring in ideas of things you may like. Also, Pinterest has become a great tool for brides!
Do you have a favorite look or looks that you’ve done?
My favorite looks are always soft and romantic with a lot of natural texture and makeup that plays up their best feature!
Any other tips you have for brides as they plan their hair and make up for their wedding day?
Try not to stress and make sure you delegate responsibilities to make your day as smooth as possible. On your big day, while getting ready, make sure you’re surrounded by people you truly enjoy and relish every minute because the day flies by!
Thank you so much Charmaine! You are amazing!
