The Search for the Perfect Camera Bag

One thing all photographers love is a good camera bag. It has to have all the right number of slots, pockets, and still be functional. The first camera bag I ever purchased was the Kelly Moore Saratoga. I love this bag and still use it to this day for engagement sessions. It is lightweight, holds a few lenses, and never gets dirty! I carry it constantly, both as a camera bag and a purse and highly recommend it for a starter bag or if you only have 1 or 2 lenses you want to carry! (Also fits a 15” laptop!)

But then, as we started investing in new gear I ran out of room in my cute Saratoga, so the search began for another perfect bag.

I started with the Brownlee from Kelly Moore because it seemed similar to my other one and I thought it would work great.

But after using it for only one wedding I realized it was not going to work. While I loved all the new found space, the opening was more narrow. And since I only shoot with one body I am constantly switching lenses quickly. I found that I couldn’t get them in and out of my bag with as much speed as I needed and overall just wasn’t as happy. So the search continued.

I talked to several photographers and read a bunch of articles and over and over they were pointing back to Kelly Moore. So I started watching YouTube videos and trying to find the perfect bag. It’s hard to do online, without seeing them in person! But I finally settled on the Kelly Moore Boy Bag. Yes it’s technically for boys…who cares it’s wonderful.

One main problem. They were no longer for sale :( So back to the internet I went. I found a few on Amazon but only in black and then I finally stumbled upon the most gorgeous caramel colored one at a random camera store in New Jersey (everything is legal in New Jersey). And so I ordered it and it came just in time for our busy November and December last year.

This bag has worked perfectly and so I wanted to give you a little rundown of why I loved it, in case any of you are scouring the internet in search of the perfect bag like I was. Side note: you can also purchase this at Adorama now but still only in black).

First of all, it is a great size. It not too big or heavy to carry.

It fits all my lenses, plus a flash, camera body, and grip – all necessary to have on hand for a wedding day!

The front pocket leaves my ExpoDisc protected and easy to grab as needed.

Plus it is super high quality, beautiful leather, and from a brand I already know and love!

One of my favorite features is that it has little feet on the bottom and is perfectly balanced (not top heavy) so I can set it on the ground while I’m shooting instead of always having to carry a bag. The only problem is walking away from it :)

Here’s a look at this beauty in action!

Another bag I’ve tried and liked is the undfind bag. It’s a similar style to the Kelly Moore, but a tiny bit smaller and with less pockets. That’s the one Scott now carries (along with his Holdfast straps) and is also a great option! We will probably upgrade him to a Boy Bag at some point though :)

Now here’s the FUN part of this post! While the Kelly Moore Brownlee didn’t work for me…it might for you! So I am selling this practically new (only used at one wedding) camera bag. And the best part, you can’t find it for sale anywhere else right now :) It is normally $200, but I am only asking $150!

So if you are interested comment below or send me an email at carri@edmistonphotography.com. Here are a few more pictures of the bag:

Also has a spot for all your cards and a mesh pocket for SD cards or lens caps!

Have you found your perfect camera bag? Let me know what it is in the comments – I love this one, but you can never have too many bags :)
